Our tips for designing your dream butler’s pantry

It may sound like something from a bygone era, but a butler’s pantry is simply an extra storage and preparation area in the home. What size are you working with?

The first thing to consider is what size of space you have to play with. And what you want the function of the space to be. Because the butler’s pantry is more of a workstation than just a basic storage area (regular pantry), you’ll need to look at how you can efficiently incorporate some benchtop space, possibly an extra sink and a general overflow from the kitchen. It’s also essential to be able to move around easily without feeling cramped.

Match the cabinetry with your kitchen

To create that seamless look, it’s a good idea to match your kitchen cabinetry with your pantry cabinetry. Read more about the types of cabinetry available in our blog here.

Consider your shelving

You’ll want to include plenty of storage for all your essentials. We recommend floating shelves and open-shelf cabinetry, so the space doesn’t feel too confined.

Don’t forget the details

Make your butler’s pantry feel like a true extension of your home by adding personal details. Choose a colour scheme that complements the rest of your home and add some fun décor items like a chalkboard, a fruit bowl or a couple of cookbooks. It’s also an excellent opportunity to get organised, by using glass jars, baskets and labels.
