Milla, Project 80

“This renovation has transformed my house in a way that is so open, bright and it feels nice to be home. The key factors for me to create a nice open plan living space was to take down some walls and make sure that as soon as you walk through the front door, you can see everything, that there’s nice straight lines and nothing is out of whack.”

“My biggest thing for me in order to create a positive vibe is my colour palette and my choice of materials, such as stone bench tops and the use of wood and natural, organic materials placed all together. I did a lot of research by going to different shops and getting colour samples and stone samples. I took all of my samples and held it up in different lighting, during different times of day, to make sure that everything looked nice and that all of the materials worked together really well.”

“My best item purchased under one hundred dollars in this renovation would have to be my storage jars. I got them from Target so I have my spices, dried fruits, pantry items in them. I put some beautiful labels on them so when you walk into my pantry it looks nice and neat, and it’s very easy to find everything that I need.”

“My best advice that I would give to people who are thinking about renovating is to plan, research, to go out in person and have a look at the things you want to do. Go visit your friends house that has just renovated and ask them for advice, the pros and the cons of whatever options they went with. Also, to go with your gut feeling as well.”
