Kitchen island benches are becoming a central stage feature in modern homes today. It’s not surprising, given they’re both functional and add stylish aesthetic appeal. No matter the size of your kitchen, there’s lots you can do to amp up the character of your kitchen and make the island bench a feature.

1 - First up, consider the size of your island. We recommend leaving 1100 millimetres for any walkways and 1300 millimetres for the space between the island bench and the back bench. This way, if there’s a dishwasher or large drawers, people can still comfortably walk around these items when they’re open.

2 - A kitchen island is primarily about creating extra space and functionality, so consider ways to do this. For instance, adding barstools turns your island into an additional dining space or a work area. Island benches make great spots for the kids to sit and do their homework while a parent is cooking.
